Santa Rosa City SchoolsSanta Rosa City Schools - Excellence is our Common Ground

Common Core State Standards

In Santa Rosa City Schools we believe if we ready our classroom through learning activities that include:

  • varying grouping opportunities,
  • development of academic discourse
  • using writing to learn across subject areas
  • linked students creating and constructing a viable argument

then our students will be college and career ready.

The Common Core State Standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them. The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers. With American students fully prepared for the future, our communities will be best positioned to compete successfully in the global economy.

Common Core State Standards describe what students are to learn at each grade level in Language Arts, Mathematics, and English Language Development however it is up to the educators to determine how the standards will be taught.  Santa Rosa City Schools is using, The Core Six: Essential Strategies for Achieving Excellence in the Common Core written by R. Thomas Dewing et al.
