Open Enrollment for Elementary, Middle and High School Students

Open enrollment for the 2017-2018 school year has closed.

Open enrollment window: October 1, 2016 - November 18, 2016

California Law and Santa Rosa City Schools' (SRCS) Board Policy provides an opportunity for parents/guardians to request that their student attend a school in an area other than the area in which they live. If that school is within the Santa Rosa City Schools district, the process is called "Open Enrollment."

OPEN ENROLLMENT PROCESS

The Santa Rosa City Schools District provides opportunities for parents and students who reside in the SRCS Elementary and Secondary Districts to select a school of choice outside their school of residence as school capacity permits.

Who Must Apply?
  • If you are at your school of residence and plan to attend your next school of residence(elementary to middle school or middle school to high school) YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO ANYTHING.
  • If your child is currently a 6th grader or an 8th grader and you are NOT at your school of residence and next school year (2017-18) you wish to go to a school that is NOT your school of residence, you must apply to Open Enrollment.
  •  If your child is in another grade and you wish to change from your current school to another school that is NOT your school of residence you must apply to Open Enrollment.
  • If you are on an Interdistrict Permit (from a district NOT SRCS) and you are planning to stay at your current school, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO ANYTHING.
  • If you are applying for a CHARTER school, you DO NOT use this form, you must contact the charter school for their enrollment process.
  • If you are on an Interdistrict Permit (from a district NOT SRCS) and you are changing school levels (elementary to middle school or middle school to high school) you must apply for a NEW Interdistrict Permit for your next school. There is NOT an automatic rollover from elementary to middle or middle to high school. YOU MUST APPLY FOR A NEW INTERDISTRICT PERMIT, NOT OPEN ENROLLMENT. Apply for an Interdistrict permit HERE

 INFORMATION

  • Students who live in the residence area have priority in attending their school of residence. The District maintains a street grid with addresses for purposes of determining the school  of residence
  • The SRCS Board of Education establishes the optimal capacity of each school.
  • If more requests to attend a school are received than there are openings, the District will use a random and unbiased lottery to fill the openings and establish a waiting list.
  • Transportation to the new school is not provided.
  • Remember, the waiting lists are done by lottery, not by the date and time the application is submitted.
