Meet the Board!

The seven Board of Education members are elected at large to serve four-year terms. A non-voting student board member is selected by students to represent student interests. Among its many duties, the Board of Education

  • Establishes district policy
  • Adopts the annual district budget
  • Approves the expenditures
  • Authorizes employment of all personnel
  • Approves curricula, textbooks and courses of study
  • Makes decisions on all contracts

A Message From Your Board

Our job on the Board is to help make our schools as good as any public schools anywhere. All students deserve the best education Santa Rosa can give them. Santa Rosa's schools are good, and this district is committed to making them even better. To do that, all of us -- parents, teachers, staff, board members, and other citizens -- must work together, with drive, energy and mutual respect, always staying focused on what matters: our children.


Bill Carle

Santa Rosan for over 30 years; raised in Cupertino; graduate of Chico State and Boalt Hall Law School at UC Berkeley.

Employment: Partner in the law firm of Carle, Mackie, Power & Ross.

Special Interests: K-12 standards, student support plan, education funding and community outreach.

Donna Jeye

Santa Rosan since 1998; AA from Katherine Gibbs, New York, NY; parent of two Santa Rosa City Schools graduates.

Special Board Interests: K-12 standards, career technical education and pathways, student support, positive relations with our partner elementary districts, and community outreach.

Frank Pugh

Employment: Instructor, Counselor and Academic Advisor, Santa Rosa Junior College since 1979. Current Author McGraw-Hill Book Company.

Special Interests: Common Core Standards, Facilities, State and Federal Relations, Charter Schools, creating new programs and closing the achievement gap.

Membership: Member to the Board of Directors for the California School Boards Association (CSBA) and the National School Boards Association (NSBA). Past President of CSBA. Director of NSBA's Pacific Region. Past member of the California ED Coalition. Member of the Board of Directors for the Education Council of the National Association or Manufacturers (NAM).

Laura Gonzalez

BA in Liberal Studies, San Francisco State University 1989; Teaching Credential with Bilingual Emphasis, Sonoma State University 1991. Parent of two current Montgomery High School students.

Employment: Teacher with the Windsor Unified School District since 1991.

Special Interests: Community outreach, particularly to language minority students and parents; effective teaching practices; and vocational pathways.

Larry Haenel

BA in History, University of Southern California; California State Teaching Credential, Long Beach State University. Father of two Santa Rosa High School Graduates.

Employment: Retired English teacher 32 years, MHS; 12 years English Dept. Chair; five years SRTA President; six years Supervisor of Student Teachers, Dominican University; Volunteer Senior Peer Counselor, Community and Family Service Agency; EcoGreen Certified Realtor, Premier Realty.

Special Interests: Effective teaching practices, community outreach, collaboration and transparency in decision making, and educational reform.


Jenni Klose

A graduate of Santa Rosa City Schools; attended Brook Hill Elementary, Herbert Slater Junior High, and Montgomery High Schools. Attended Santa Rosa Junior College on a Doyle Scholarship; B.S. in Biochemistry from U.C.L.A.; J.D. from Indiana University School of Law - Bloomington.

Employment: Attorney practicing in civil litigation and appellate law.

Special Interests: Increasing community engagement in public education; promoting professional development and innovation through peer-centered coaching and collaboration; closing the achievement gap; dual immersion education.

Ron Kristof

Native Santa Rosan; B.A. Political Science/English, Teaching Credential & M.A. Political Science from Sonoma State University.

Taught social studies, English, and foreign language in the Santa Rosa School District for twenty-eight years; six years experience in business; currently working toward the organization of an educational nonprofit.

Areas of particular interest include developing powerful, inquiry-based curriculum; building strong, representative communities to support each school site; and working toward adequate and sustainable financing for public schools.
