Elsie Allen High School opened in September 1994. It is a beautiful campus located in a country setting, with many amenities including an all-weather track and a lighted sports facility for evening athletic events. EAHS offers an outstanding academic program which includes Advanced Placement and honors courses in mathematics, English, social science, science, world languages and art. The University Center @ Elsie Allen is a partnership with Sonoma State University where students complete a rigorous college preparatory schedule in two or three years, allowing them to take courses at SSU for only $15 per semester in their junior and senior years. Several businesses and community members provide scholarship and mentoring programs for EAHS’s ethnically diverse student population. The parent community participates actively in curricular and extra-curricular activities. EAHS offers success to all students by sponsoring on-line instruction via Cyber High, a tutoring center and peer educators. The EAHS Health Center, located on campus, provides a variety of health services to students and their families.

Maria Carrillo High School was founded in 1996. Students engage in activities across the curriculum that require them to communicate clearly, study effectively, solve complex problems, think critically, work creatively, make decisions and learn independently. As a result, students consistently achieve high overall test scores on standardized tests. Technology is infused throughout the curriculum. MCHS offers 37 different athletic teams, 31 campus clubs and organizations, and a varied calendar of social activities. Humanities, a ninth grade course integrated with the English program, is a specialized graduation requirement for MCHS students.

Montgomery High School (MHS)

Montgomery High School opened in 1958. The school offers the only authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) program for high school students in the county. The IB diploma curriculum in fourteen different subject areas provides very rigorous coursework for college bound students. Twenty five IB diplomas were awarded to students in the Class of 2007. The athletic arenas at the school were recently renovated and include an all weather track, sports field, baseball/softball facilities, tennis courts, and stadium facilities with lights. The school excels in the number of scholar-athletes in the region with 225 students with a GPA of 3.5 or better during the season in which their sport is played.

Piner High School has enjoyed excellence since opening in 1966, PHS is a rapidly evolving school that provides outstanding university preparation and career-technical education opportunities to a richly diverse student population. The balance of university and career-technical preparation is reflected in a partnership program with Santa Rosa Junior College – the Early College Magnet Program. Students complete college preparatory coursework in core academic and career interest areas, as well as college skills preparation courses. In their junior and senior years students take courses at SRJC that lead to career certification, an Associate’s Degree or transfer to a four year university.

Santa Rosa High School is a newly remodeled, historic school That will celebrate its 128th commencement in spring 2008. It is the eighth oldest high school in the state with the main building being declared a historic state landmark. SRHS offers a wide array of Advanced Placement and honors courses. The nationally renowned ArtQuest Program is unique in northern California and received a Golden Bell Award from the California State Board Association for outstanding visual and performing arts program in fall 2007. ArtQuest has specialty areas in visual fine arts, video production, digital arts, photography, vocal music, instrumental music, drama and dance. ArtQuest is one of many rich academic, artistic, athletic and career-technical education opportunities on this beautiful comprehensive high school campus.

Alternative Schools

SRCS offers educational options for students who are not able to succeed in the traditional high school setting. The continuation school program offers small class size in a small setting and varies the instructional methods and schedules to meet individual student needs. The district’s alternative programs are located in various parts of the city.

Ridgway High School (528-5325) is a new campus located at 325 Ridgway Avenue. Admission is by request or may be involuntary if referred by another district high school. An evaluation and advisory program are key components to individualizing the academic and support plans for students.

Santa Rosa City Schools runs four Small Continuation High Schools:

• Nueva Vista, 522-3291 (Pregnant Minor Program)

Students may enter at regular points during the school year as space is available and usually exit at the end of a semester to benefit the students’ transition from one school to the other. Further information may be obtained from school counselors.
